How awesome is <THIS>!!!

This brings me back to my formative years of high school! So awesome!

and we’ve got tickets lined up for Bond this Friday!! Woot!!

Also… only one month left to go before the big walk!

Time to ramp up the training!

This weekend past we did the 1k steps twice! Finally! Without the pack on though, so maybe we’ll bust the packs out and go twice next time. Perhaps without the 10kg weights though!

We have a day hike planned again this Sunday and also a camping trip the following weekend!

Let the fun and shenanigans begin!

and a big welcome home to Nuffies! YAY!!!

***EDIT***

Wow, I used a lot of exclamation marks.

The long walk.

27 10 2008

Saturday saw myself and Spicy head up to Kinglake National Park to attempt the Mount Everard Circuit walk. There are differing records as to the length of the circuit, varying from 18.8km to 19.6km to 22km, so I am not sure exactly how far we walked. Assuming the maps along the trail are accurate then 22km should be the total length with a recommended completion time of between 6-7hrs.

The main trail and my pack

Unfortunately for Spicy, he failed to ask me how far we were walking when he agreed to come on this trek and the poor sod had not slept much before hand.

Lunch break

So upon our arrival at 11:30 we set off from the car park and took the trek along a small trail through the lush green forest along the Shelley Harris Track, which I should have taken a photo of!

Unfortunately when we reached the Mount Jerusalem track, which is the start of the main circuit trail, we did not pay attention to the arrows indicating the recommended direction we take around the track. So we started off going the opposite way and found out the hard way why the other direction was recommended. In fact when we reached the peak of Mount Everard, we had thought we were further along the trail than we were. When we realised where we were, the mountain did indeed live up to it’s previous name Mount Misery.

Anyway, we drank some cement and hardened up and continued on our way and finally made it back to the car just under 5 and a half hours.

Spent and ready to go home

If we had traveled in the right direction our trip would have been much easier and quicker! So, the next time we head out on a trail we’ll know to pay more attention.

Oh and here is a tree that stood out a little amongst the gums, it amused me.

That wasn’t the end of my trekking for the weekend however, because I turned up to the 1k steps on Sunday morning too! I did however leave my backpack with the weights at home. If I had gone with my pack I think I would have suffered terribly at boxing tonight. Hmm, maybe I will just be a slob the rest of this week… mmm… hamburgers…

WOW!

Jean Claude Van Damme

and on a second note… they are making a Transporter 3?!

Don’t get me wrong, I like Jason Statham, but seriously?!?!

Inspiring the uninspired..

8 10 2008

Life has been delivering its ups and downs in the last few weeks and work, research project, license tests and assignments were starting to get me down. I know I am close to the finish line with the project and tests and I should just wrap things up, but I have been uninspired to do so.

So we had a weekend away to visit Nuffies. Our first encounter with Perth and the wonderful beaches of Fremantle and Cottesloe, the wineries of the Swan Valley and a lovely stroll through Kings Park. The weekend trip to Perth was a great distraction and spending a weekend away with my Cheazles has helped me refocus on the bigger picture.

Sometimes the small things in life weigh you down and you get dragged into your own little world and you forget there are more important things.

I am now refocused to get this next two weeks of mental stress out of the way and then get back to the physical training for our trip to Nepal. I hear a lot of stories of people who fall in love with the Himalayas, both the people and the scenery. Perhaps it is the simple life you can experience when you get there, and the sheer size and scale of the mountains that remind you of your place.

I think I’m doing this trip for me.

Well, I should say Cheazles and I are doing this trip for ourselves.

I hope the next time we can do a trip like this, for someone else.

(Warning: long clip)

Second week in..

28 09 2008

This will be the second week into my exercise regime. Things have hit full swing with a couple of boxing sessions a week with runs and walks in between, and my lug up the 1k steps with my weighted backpack. Hopefully all of this effort pays off when I reach Annapurna!

I must admit, today’s trek up the 1k steps was a bit of a struggle. I think the 10kg weights were sitting a little low in the backpack weighing down on my lower back a little too much. Getting to the top was a relief, we went slow and steady but got there.

Onto other inane rubbish. Yesterday I was stopped in the street by an Indian fortune teller. I thought the man was going to ask me for directions, but I was wrong. He started into a spiel about me being lucky and that this year would be a good year and last year wasn’t very good. Then he started on his downward spiral of being totally wrong about things. Now, I’m not against fortune tellers. Culturally, my up bringing leads me to believe in people having some sort of preordained fate and that perhaps there are those who can cut through the veil and let us know some of what to expect. However, there are also confidence tricksters who just get it all wrong!

Even those who seem to get some of the things right I think, well you’re trying to interpret some sign or whatever it is you are looking at but you don’t know enough about me and my situation to apply that interpretation. This is where I think things get a little dangerous because there are those who put a lot of stock in things like this, which means they will adjust their lives accordingly. Sometimes the changes might be for the better and perhaps give a bit of confidence to someone who needs it. Negative comments however may in fact be self fulfilling. Being told to expect bad luck may put someone into that frame of mind and cause them not to seize all opportunities or to let them not take ownership of any of their own failings.

Anyway, these ramblings are not of any particular importance.

Time to feed myself and knuckle down to get some work done.

I’m beached as!

For no other purpose than to share this..

The rat race..

12 09 2008

Another week gone, and another week will begin in no time.

Is this what our existence has come to? What is the point?

I wish I could re-live the carefree existence I used to have, when I knew that the only things I need worry about were what I wanted to eat, where I wanted to go, could I still sleep til noon and who would I like to share the next few hours of my life with?

Well, I still need to work out what I want to eat, but time seems to change everything… even the people aren’t the same anymore… is this what I have signed up for?

Maybe it’s not too late to escape to the peaceful life with no worldly attachment… Om Mani Padme Hom…Om Mani Padme Hom…

Tired and Grumpy..

26 08 2008

That pretty much sums things up.

Just feeling a bit on the flat side and easily irritated.

Had a bit of a challenging week last week including a major case of road rage. Boy was I on the Rage-a-hol! I am of the firm belief that those who wish to drive in peak hour and particularly those who wish to drive in town should be require further testing. Those who don’t adhere to the common sense practices involved with navigating the nightmare that is peak hour CBD driving have no business being there! ESPECIALLY IF YOU SIT AT AN INTERSECTION FOR FOUR CHANGES OF THE LIGHTS because you don’t want to enter the intersection because it isn’t clear! For F–Ks Sake! It’s Peak HOUR!! He was damn lucky it was clear after four changes of lights instead of ten! If it was legal, I would have gotten out and knocked on his window and punched him in the head! GRRrrrr!!!

Beyond those challenges, Amph nicked off to land of the McWhale Burger! So, toodles to Amph! I still maintain that you should consider my suggestion of a career move into Sumo. You would have groupies!

Anyway, it is time to sleep and this post was pointless.. at least I have gotten through the Monday grind. Four more days to go… Thank <insert whichever deity> for coffee!

After flicking through SuperWoman’s photos, I was reminded of this particular clip.. I love it..

Catch ups and *Pow Pow*

9 08 2008

The last couple of weeks has seen a couple of catch up sessions with friends I hadn’t seen for a little while. It started with a session running around town hunting for caches with Tams the buttface and Amph, a catch up with Aids at our yum cha session, lunch with N the pirate and Twisty and then a today’s catch up with old Spicy.

It’s been good seeing everyone and catch up on some of the old shenanigans. Reminds me of the good old carefree days when I used to just hang out, drink lots of coffee, eat lots of rubbish and just beat each other up!

Today’s catch up included some nice breakfast involving eggs and salmon, and then gut punching! Ah.. the gut punching. Spicy packs a mean gut punch now. I think I need to get myself better organised so I can make it to some training sessions to improve my gut punching too!

I miss training and hitting people!
