This will be the second week into my exercise regime. Things have hit full swing with a couple of boxing sessions a week with runs and walks in between, and my lug up the 1k steps with my weighted backpack. Hopefully all of this effort pays off when I reach Annapurna!
I must admit, today’s trek up the 1k steps was a bit of a struggle. I think the 10kg weights were sitting a little low in the backpack weighing down on my lower back a little too much. Getting to the top was a relief, we went slow and steady but got there.
Onto other inane rubbish. Yesterday I was stopped in the street by an Indian fortune teller. I thought the man was going to ask me for directions, but I was wrong. He started into a spiel about me being lucky and that this year would be a good year and last year wasn’t very good. Then he started on his downward spiral of being totally wrong about things. Now, I’m not against fortune tellers. Culturally, my up bringing leads me to believe in people having some sort of preordained fate and that perhaps there are those who can cut through the veil and let us know some of what to expect. However, there are also confidence tricksters who just get it all wrong!
Even those who seem to get some of the things right I think, well you’re trying to interpret some sign or whatever it is you are looking at but you don’t know enough about me and my situation to apply that interpretation. This is where I think things get a little dangerous because there are those who put a lot of stock in things like this, which means they will adjust their lives accordingly. Sometimes the changes might be for the better and perhaps give a bit of confidence to someone who needs it. Negative comments however may in fact be self fulfilling. Being told to expect bad luck may put someone into that frame of mind and cause them not to seize all opportunities or to let them not take ownership of any of their own failings.
Anyway, these ramblings are not of any particular importance.
Time to feed myself and knuckle down to get some work done.
